THE BUILD IN DETAIL
PROJECT OVERVIEW
A restomod interior build that pairs the iconic look of a first-gen Camaro with modern comfort and materials. The owner wanted to drive this car — hard — on weekends and the occasional track day, so the interior needed to look period-correct from five feet away but deliver modern seat support, improved ergonomics, and materials that can handle real use.
THE CHALLENGE
Restomods require walking a fine line between authenticity and improvement. The seats needed better lateral support for spirited driving without looking like aftermarket racing seats. The carpet and insulation needed to handle the heat and noise from a built 427 without looking over-engineered. And everything had to survive real-world use, not just sit in a garage.
OUR APPROACH
We started with reproduction seat frames and rebuilt them with modern high-density foam shaped for improved lateral support. Covers were cut in the factory Houndstooth pattern but executed in a more durable modern fabric. Sound deadening and thermal insulation were added beneath the carpet without raising the floor height. Door panels were rebuilt with improved fit and a subtle speaker integration.
THE RESULT
The owner has put over 4,000 miles on the car since completion, including two track days at Thunderhill. The interior still looks brand new. He says it's the most comfortable first-gen Camaro he's ever driven — which was exactly the goal.
