1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona
Connolly Leather Interior Rebuild — Concours Preparation
THE BUILD IN DETAIL
PROJECT OVERVIEW
A full interior rebuild of a matching-numbers Ferrari Daytona being prepared for concours competition. The interior required complete re-trimming in Connolly leather using period-correct methods, colors, and finishing techniques. This is the kind of project where every stitch is scrutinized by judges with magnifying glasses.
THE CHALLENGE
The Daytona's interior is uniquely complex — compound curves, integrated headrests, and sculpted door cards that require exceptional pattern-making skills. Original Connolly leather is no longer produced, so sourcing an equivalent that passes concours scrutiny required extensive research and sampling. The seat foam had degraded and required complete rebuilding to original contours.
OUR APPROACH
Working from factory documentation and reference photographs of known-correct examples, we developed patterns for every interior piece. Leather was sourced from a UK tannery producing hides to the original Connolly specification. Seat foam was sculpted by hand to match factory contours. Every piece was assembled using period-correct methods — including the specific adhesive types used in the era.
THE RESULT
The completed interior scored maximum points in the interior category at the Ferrari Club of America National Concours. The judge's notes specifically cited the interior quality as 'exceptional — indistinguishable from factory new.' The owner has since declined multiple seven-figure offers for the car.
